Kinaura Partners partnered with AVAC to conduct an in-depth organizational assessment and develop a new strategic plan for the 2022–2026 period. As AVAC navigated an evolving HIV prevention landscape, the organization sought support to sharpen strategic priorities, strengthen organizational alignment, and build a more robust approach to monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL). Kinaura designed a participatory process to ensure the strategy reflected both external realities and internal ambitions.
Kinaura’s work combined a comprehensive desk review with key informant interviews involving internal leaders, staff, board members, and external partners, alongside a staff survey to surface organizational strengths, gaps, and opportunities. We facilitated all-staff and board workshops to build shared understanding of strategic planning and MERL concepts, ensuring teams were equipped to connect day-to-day work with long-term impact goals. This inclusive approach helped build buy-in and readiness for implementation across the organization.
A core focus of the engagement was strengthening AVAC’s MERL framework. Kinaura assessed existing practices, identified gaps, and co-developed a set of practical, innovative indicators aligned to strategic objectives. We also supported the design of efficient measurement approaches and a phased rollout plan—including tools, guidance, and trainings—to embed learning and accountability. Together, this work positioned AVAC to execute its strategy with greater clarity, coherence, and evidence-driven impact.
